On the night of a double murder, a mysterious patron of a roadside diner has a date with the Devil.

Playing with myths and legends surrounding the Devil from Milton to the American south, the film follows an increasingly bizarre sequence of events that play out in realtime, entirely from the point of view of the faceless and silent patron of a roadside diner on the night of a double murder.

Having grown up the son of a minister I have always had a fascination with the notion of “the Devil made me do it”, a justification that is conveniently as impossible to disprove as it is to prove. If Voltaire was right in saying that “If God did not exist, we would have to invent him”, it would appear we needed to conjure a Devil too. With Scratch I wanted to play with a modern take on the ancient figure; is he a supernatural being with the power to prey on our weakness or merely a myth, bubbling up from our subconscious to explain our irrational urges?
