Thru: An Environmental History of the Appalachian Trail

: Documentary Feature
GENRE: Documentary
STATUS: Pre-Production

Thru: An Environmental History of the Appalachian Trail is a feature length documentary that explores the evolution of environmental thinking in America through the history of the Appalachian Trail and the terrain it traverses.

Thru is a historical and observational documentary that will tell the story of the environmental history of the Appalachian Trail which runs 2,180 miles from Georgia to Maine over the craggy spine of a mountainous landscape where the many fits and starts and changing attitudes about environmentalism have developed.

Thru will include hikers on the Appalachian Trail, interviews with historians, writers and thinkers, music performed by residents of the mountains and surrounding valleys, and verité scenes of environmental action currently happening along the trail’s route. All will come together to tell the story of the creation and life of the Appalachian Trail, an unprecedented effort that combined federal, state, local, and volunteer organizations in a unified push towards a walking path that would serve as a beacon to generations of environmentalists.
